A transfer changes the currency
Transferring moves eligible bank rewards into a partner loyalty program. It is different from paying with points through a bank travel portal. Capital One states that finalized transfers cannot be moved back into the Capital One rewards account; that is a reason to confirm the award first.
Never assume 1:1
The source card matters as well as the bank. Chase announced different Hyatt conversion rules for specified cardholders in 2026. The transfer calculator therefore includes separate Sapphire Preferred account cohorts and a scheduled October transition rather than treating all Chase points alike.
Calculate the transfer in the right direction
To predict what you receive, multiply source points by the destination-per-source ratio and any applicable bonus. To fund a target award, divide the needed destination balance by that effective rate, then round up to an allowed transfer increment.
Illustrative example: you need 30,000 destination points at a 4:3 ratio with no bonus. You need 40,000 source points. A hypothetical 20% transfer bonus would change the effective ratio to 0.90 destination points per source point; a 1,000-point transfer step then requires 34,000 source points, producing 30,600. A displayed bonus must apply to your actual account and dates.
The pre-transfer checklist
- Find the award in the receiving program for your exact travelers and dates.
- Check matching account names and eligible account ownership.
- Confirm the ratio, minimum and permitted increment in the logged-in transfer preview.
- Confirm timing, fees and whether the bonus is immediate or delayed.
- Transfer only what your booking needs; check availability again immediately.
